Strong Finish Pushes Southwind Past East St. Louis at Hoops Classic

Southwind used a strong finish to edge East St. Louis 44-38 in overtime Friday afternoon in Caldwell County’s West Kentucky Hoops Classic.

Down 25-20 at halftime, the Memphis school came back to tie things at 36-36 at the end of regulation. The Jaguars then outscored the Illinois school 8-2 in the extra session to pull out the win.

Kristopher Carol had 12 points and Ron Towns 11 to lead Southwind, which is now 9-4.

Arlandis Brown had 15 points and Montreal Stacker had 11 for the East St. Louis Flyers (6-8).

Both teams will play again Saturday in the Hoops Classic.

Southwind will face Pinson Valley (Alabama) at 5 p.m. while East St. Louis plays East Coweta (Georgia) at 3:30 p.m.
