It will be a championship Sunday for the Lyon County Lady Lyons. Lyon County got a powerful 1-2 combo from Piper Cotham and Courtney Collins and won for the 8th straight time Saturday with a 65-56 win over previously unbeaten Lexington Lafayette in the semifinals of the Kelly Holiday Classic at Bourbon County High School.

Lafayette survived a 3-point barrage from the Lady Lyons in the opening quarter to take a 19-17 lead after one. Lyon County knocked down five from behind the arc in the first eight minutes.

Cotham and Collins took over in the second quarter, combining to score all 15 Lyon County points as the Lady Lyons battled back to take a 32-30 lead at the half.

With Cotham leading the way coming out of the break, the Lady Lyons continued to move the lead on out. By the end of the quarter, Lyon County was up 48-43. The margin would have been even more if not for free throws for the Generals. Lafayette hit 7 of 11 from the stripe in the quarter.

Lyon County would get the lead out to double digits in the final quarter before settling in for the nine-point win.

Piper Cotham and Courtney Collins each scored 24 points for Lyon County. Collins also had 8 rebounds. Trinity Taylor also had a big game with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Belle Combs was the only Lafayette player to get to double figures with 26 points. Abbey Popham finished the game with 8 points for the Generals.

Lyon County moves to 9-1 on the season and will play for the championship of the tournament Sunday evening.
