Taylor Leads Lady Rebels to Win Over John Hardin in Caveland Classic

The Todd County Central Lady Rebels closed out their appearance in the 2024 Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic by picking up a big win in the 5th place game of the tournament. The Lady Rebels got 17 points from senior Alexis Taylor and their defense held John Hardin to single digits each quarter on their way to a 44-30 win over the Lady Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

The day started off a bit on the slow side for Todd County Central. John Hardin held the Lady Rebels to just two field goals in the opening quarter as the Lady Bulldogs took an 8-5 lead.

Alexis Taylor, who was held scoreless in the first, got things going in the second quarter, coming up with 6 points and helping the Lady Rebels come back to take a 19-17 lead at the break.

Taylor stayed hot as the second half got underway, putting up nine points in the third as Todd County Central began to pull away, taking a 36-25 lead into the final quarter.

The Lady Rebel defense then closed out the win, holding John Hardin to just five points over the final quarter and pulling out to the final 14-point margin.

In addition to the 17 points from Alexis Taylor, Todd County Central got 11 points from JaMya Kay and 6 points each from Daymea Garrett and Kathryn Ballard.

John Hardin was led by Charlotte McCurry with 12 points. Ja’leigha Bussey added 8 more for the Lady Bulldogs.

Todd County Central (7-5) gets back to work Friday when the Lady Rebels go on the road to Jo Byrns. The Lady Rebels won the first matchup this season 57-32 on December 13 in Elkton.
