Wildcats Fall in Caveland Classic Finale

Trigg County played from behind the entire contest and could never climb out of the hole as they fell to Ohio County 54-40 in the consolation round of the Rafferty’s Double Dogs Caveland Classic at Edmondson County on Friday.

Trigg managed just one field goal in the first quarter as they fell behind 11-3.

Ohio County upped their lead to 27-16 by halftime and led 35-27 after three quarters.

Landen Swann and Caleb Fogle each knocked down a trio of three-pointers for the Wildcats. Fogle finished with 12 points and Swann scored 9.

Davaree Goode led the Wildcats with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Ohio County (4-7) got 18 points from Ryan Durham, with 13 of those coming in the final quarter.

Trigg held a 29-26 advantage on the glass, but the Wildcats turned the basketball over 19 times compared to just six for the Eagles.

Trigg County got a solid day from freshman Melo Dixon who came off the bench to score two points, grab three rebounds, and hand out three assists.

Ohio County won the only other time the schools met – 64-50 in 2019.

On Saturday, Trigg County fell to Edmonson County 65-52 in the eighth-place game, dropping to 0-5 all-time in two appearances at the Caveland Classic.

Edmonson County led 34-32 at halftime but broke the game open with a 21-7 third quarter run that put them up 55-39 after three quarters.

Davaree Gude posted another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lance Breckel dropped a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Slaton Carter added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Edmonson County (8-5) got 24 points from Blayne Deweese. It was the first time the schools had met on the hardwood.

Carter and Caleb Fogle were named to the Caveland Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Wildcats (5-6) will hit the road on Thursday for a game at Community Christian and will travel to Mayfield on Saturday to play former Wildcat head coach Payton Croft and the Mayfield Cardinals.
