Lady Maroons Split Saturday Games at Murray Lady Tiger Classic

The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons finished their appearance in the 2024 Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic by splitting a pair of games Saturday. The Lady Maroons lost to Union County in the first game and then came back to beat the host Murray Lady Tigers in the second game of the day.

Cold shooting was the issue in the opener as the Lady Maroons fell 58-48 to Union County. Madisonville made just 19 of 52 shots from the field in the loss.

Taylor Nelson and Macy Wright were the leading scorers for the Lady Maroons with 11 points each. Bryanne Johnson added 8 points.

The second game Saturday saw the Lady Maroons build a 29-22 halftime lead and then have to rally in the 4th quarter to take a 61-55 win over the Murray Lady Tigers.

Murray used the 3-point shot to overcome the 7-point halftime deficit and take a 40-37 lead into the final quarter.

The Lady Maroons got back to the lead and then sealed the win in the fourth quarter by knocking down 13 of 17 from the free throw line.

Riley Sword scored 22 points to lead the Lady Maroons and was named Player of the Game. Macy Wright had another big game with 16 points. SaNya Carney and Taylor Nelson added 8 points each.

Mayla Smith made six 3-pointers and led the Lady Tigers with 24 points. Kaydence Kindle chipped in with 19 points for Murray.

With the split on the day, the Lady Maroons go to 7-5 on the season. They get back to action Saturday when they go on the road to take on the Owensboro Lady Red Devils.
