The holidays have not exactly been ‘happy’ for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons. The Maroons struggled on the offensive end of the court Sunday morning and fell to the host Thomas Nelson Generals 43-29 in the Maroons final game of Thomas Nelson’s holiday event.

The loss was the 5th straight for the Maroons and the third straight game in which they were without the services of leading scorer Kanyon Johnson. Second leading scorer Landen Smith did not play Sunday for the Maroons.

The third quarter was the undoing against Thomas Nelson. After scoring just 18 points in the opening half, Madisonville managed just three free throws in the third quarter. Things did not get much better in the fourth as the Maroons managed three field goals and two made three throws as the Generals took the 14-point win.

Madisonville-North Hopkins was led by Vonte Wilkes with 8 points. Ryan Bryant had 7 points while Peyton Smith finished with 6 points.

The loss drops Madisonville-North Hopkins to 7-5 on the year. The Maroons will look to end their losing skid Friday night when they host the Webster County Trojans.
