Franklin County Upends Lady Colonels in LIS Semifinals

Something had to give in Sunday night’s matchup between the Christian County Lady Colonels and the Franklin County Lady Flyers in the semifinal round of the Lady Invitational of the South at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Franklin County was looking to reach the finals for the second straight year, while Christian County was 10-0 in the event going into the evening.

A cold shooting second half ended up telling the story for the Lady Colonels as they fell to the Lady Flyers 53-40. After shooting better than 64 percent in the first half, Christian County cooled down to 31.6 percent in the second half as Franklin County was slowly able to inch its way away to the double digit win.

Franklin County also did the job on the boards, outrebounding the Lady Colonels 33 to 19.

Christian County led 13-12 after the opening quarter. The Lady Flyers battled back in the second to take a 27-22 lead at the half.

As the Lady Colonels cooled off after the break, the Lady Flyers slowly got themselves some breathing room, taking a 39-30 lead into the final quarter.

Franklin County was able to turn back any comeback efforts from the Lady Colonels over the final eight minutes and took the 13 point win.

Christian County was led by NeVaeh Day, who battled foul problems in the contest. Day ended up with 13 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out. Anaysia Bagwell finished with 7 points and Genesis McGee added 6 points.

The Lady Flyers were led by Julianne Frazce with 12 points. Keyonia Taylor also reached double figures with 11.

Christian County falls to 8-7 with the loss. The Lady Colonels will take on the host Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots Monday afternoon in the 3rd place game.
