
No one was happier to see the calendar flip to 2025 than the Trigg County Lady Wildcats.
2024 was a 12-month period during which they lost 24 of the 25 games they played, with the lone win coming right before Christmas.
On Thursday, the Lady Wildcats opened 2025 with a 68-24 win at Community Christian.
Trigg County never trailed, jumping out to a 13-0 lead. Emma Wring scored a bucket at the first-period horn for CCA’s first points of the game.
Alivia Norwood scored nine of her career-high 17 points in the second period as the Lady Wildcats stretched their lead to 33-5 at halftime.
Cali Jones scored eight of her career-high 17 points in the third quarter for Trigg, which overcame a 14-point effort from Wring and Cecily Ford.
Trigg County shot a season-best 47% from the field, including a 57% performance in the second half.
Veyda Grinols added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Wildcats who also got eight points from Reese Bush.
A.J. Navarro turned in her best stat line of the season – seven points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Wring led Community Christian (1-8) with 12 points with Ford scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The win was Trigg’s seventh straight in the series. Thursday’s game was the first time the schools had played in six years.
Trigg County (2-7) will host Lyon County on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Wildcat Gym. The game was postponed in December due to sickness that swept the region.
