Trigg County fell victim to a hot shooting team at home and still nearly pulled off an improbable comeback on Thursday.

However, Community Christian 11 of 13 free throws in the final quarter to beat the Wildcats 77-72. It was CCA’s first win over Trigg County in 11 career meetings.

The Warriors, who came into the game shooting 28% from 3-point range, knocked down 7 of 14 in the first half and 10-of-21 through three quarters in building a 50-30 lead with 2:19 left in the third quarter.

Trigg caught fire in the final 10 minutes, hitting 12 of 18 shots and trimming the deficit to 72-69 with 39 seconds left and down to 74-72 with 23 ticks remaining. But Community Christian, normally a 56% free throw shooting team, appeared to receive the gift of shooting for Christmas as they shot 72% at the line on Thursday.

The Warriors also finished 47% from the field.

Caleb Fogle hit 6-of-7 from 3-point range in the second half and finished with 23 points for the Wildcats, who hit 10-of-21 behind the arc in the second half.

Lane Breckel added 15 points and seven rebounds, and Davaree Gude added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for Trigg County, who also got some solid minutes off the bench from freshman Melo Dixon who was +10 in his seven minutes on the floor.
