The Hopkinsville Tigers kicked off 8th District play Saturday afternoon in impressive fashion. The Tigers scored the first seven points of the game and were never seriously threatened as they led wire-to-wire for an 84-32 win over the Fort Campbell Falcons.

The win was the 40th straight for the Tigers in the series. The last Falcon win came 71-55 in the 2006 8th District tournament.

The Tigers jumped out to the quick 7-0 lead and were up 24-6 when the first quarter ended. With the Hopkinsville defensive pressure leading to turnovers and the Tigers crashing the boards, Hopkinsville got up 25 shots in the opening quarter compared to just 6 shots for the Falcons.

Thanks to the play of Tyreek Anthony, the Falcons hung around with the Tigers for the first couple of minutes in the second quarter. Ultimately, the Tigers got rolling again and got back to pulling away. The Hopkinsville lead was 44-17 at the half.

At the half, Hopkinsville had put up 52 shots to just 21 for Fort Campbell.

The Tigers came out of the break and picked up where they left off, getting to the running clock early on in the third quarter. The Hopkinsville lead was 72-28 heading into the final quarter.

Reserves saw extensive action for both teams over the final 8 minutes.

Hopkinsville was led by Jonovan Leavell, who finished with 16 points. Jonathan Hart and James Bradley Jr. had 15 points each. Layton Giltner also hit double figures with 12.

Tyreek Anthony ended up with 15 points and was the only Falcon to reach double digits. Kayden Pierce scored 6 points and Jamile Wilson had 5 for Fort Campbell.

The shot differential told the story in this one as Hopkinsville put up 81 field goal attempts to just 39 attempts for the Falcons.

Hopkinsville improves to 4-9 with the win. The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action Friday night when they host the Christian County Colonels.

Fort Campbell drops to 1-9 with the loss, which is the Falcons’ 7th straight. They are set to host Caldwell County Tuesday evening in an opening round game of the 2nd Region All A Classic.
