
A 58-point first half and 40-point nights for Jonah Butler and Eli Finley guided the Calloway County Lakers past Hopkins County Central 104-77 in Wednesday’s 2A Region tournament matchup at Paducah Tilghman.
The Lakers were well on their way to a fourth-straight win with 27 points in the first quarter, with Finley and Butler combining for 21.
DeVonyae Butcher and Channing Stone each scored six in the opening frame for the Storm, and Butcher and Blake Sumner teamed up for 14 in the second, but they still trailed by 19 at halftime. Butler capped a 27-point half with 19 in the second frame and Finley went into the break with 20.
Lake Sumner drilled a pair of threes in the third quarter and the Storm played right with the Lakers in the second half. However, Butler added nine after the break to finish with a game-high 42, and Finley scored 10 in each of the final quarters to post 41.
Butcher and Lake Sumner each finished with 18 to pace the Storm, followed by Stone with 12.
Calloway County improved to 14-1 while Hopkins Central saw a three-game winning streak snapped to slip to 6-5. The Storm will return to the court on Monday when they host University Heights Academy.
