He’s called her his “little monster” at point guard and also the quarterback of his team.

But no matter what Kentucky coach Kenny Brooks calls fifth-year star Georgia Amoore he knows one thing — she is the best point guard in the country and her numbers certainly back up his claim.

Amoore was named one of five Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week and the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week this week after scoring 20 or more points for the fifth and sixth straight games last week — both UK wins in SEC play by at least 18 points. Those kinds of margins had occurred only one time — during the 1992-93 season.

The All-American point guard made seven 3-pointers in the win over Mississippi State, her second time in three games with seven 3’s — Rhyne Howard is the only other UK player to make at least seven 3’s in two games in the same season. She had three more 3-pointers against Vanderbilt Sunday.

Amoore averaged 25.5 points in the two wins and shot 47 percent overall from the field and 50 percent from 3. Amoore was also 7-for-7 at the foul line in the two games and leads the SEC in free throw accuracy at 93 percent.

If that wasn’t enough, she also had nine assists in both games.

Going into Thursday afternoon’s game at Florida,  Amoore is leading the team in scoring at 17.9 points and 7.4 assists per game.

Amoore is the only women’s basketball player  in the Top 20 of Division I in assists per game, assist-to-turnover ratio, and free-throw percentage

“She was already a star. Coming into this year, her role was very different. Her role is that she is the focal point. She’s really stepped it up with her leadership ability,” Brooks said Tuesday.

  1. GREAT ARTICLE!!!

Please suggest that this amazing PG, with stats and success to prove her value, be used as an example for the men’s BB players who have very low assist totals when playing a lot of minutes and taking a lot of shots and those with a poor A:TO ratio.

SOME of the men’s team players need to be humbled and made to sit and watch Georgia Amoore illustrate how to be a TEAM player using the PASS to include others!

Her high scoring is aided by the fact opponents do not know if she is going to shoot or pass. Players who are going to shoot first a very high % of the time are the equivalent of giving an opponent a play book. They already know your intentions.

    1. considering we lead the nation in assist to turnover ratio this is a very helpful bit of advice.. can you please do research before you post negative comments about our men’s basketball team.. assists and turnovers are not our problem even when they play the maximum amount of minutes… our problem is shooting ourselves out of games and terrible officiating.. pope will get fined if he says that.. I , however will not
