Slow out of the gate in Wednesday’s 2A Region tournament matchup with Calloway County at Paducah Tilghman, Hopkins County Central’s improved play in the second half wasn’t enough to battle back in a 54-42 loss to the Lady Lakers.
Calloway County won its tenth-straight game dating back to early December to improve to 13-2. The Lady Storm slipped to 7-6 and will look to get back on track at Hopkinsville High School on Saturday.
Angie Emery scored five of Calloway’s 13 points in the opening quarter and the Lady Lakers held Hopkins Central to only four to take control.
Addie Menser scored six of her team-high 11 in the second frame for the Lady Storm, but Calloway countered with eight from Madison Futrell to double up Hopkins Central 28-14 at halftime.
After a scoreless first half, Lady Storm leading scorer Tyah White posted six points in the third to shave a point off the Lady Laker lead with a quarter to play.
White added four more points in the fourth and Kenzleigh Harrison knocked down a pair of three-pointers for Hopkins Central, but Sayler Lowe scored six to help Calloway seal the win.
White joined Menser in double figures with 10 points for the Lady Storm.
Jaycee Crouch led Calloway with 15, and Futrell finished with 13.
