Slaton Carter has known for a while that he wanted to go to college at Campbellsville University. The big question is would he be able to play baseball there as well.

That reality happened on Thursday as the Trigg County High School senior signed to continue his athletic and academic career at the NAIA school.

Slaton, a catcher, hit .268 for the Wildcats last year and was among the team leaders with a .717 OPS – on-base percentage plus slugging. He was also second on the team in RBI.

When baseball begins in the spring, it will be the fourth sport for Slaton, who also played soccer and basketball and punted for the football team.

Attending Campbellsville continues a family tradition. The son of Justin and Lindsay Carter, his father, the pastor at Cadiz Baptist Church, attended seminary at CU, and his aunts played golf in college there.

Slaton says he wants to study social studies education and coach either basketball or baseball once he settles on a post-college home.
