A member of Trigg County’s first family of baseball will continue his academic and athletic career at Dyersburg State College.
Wildcat senior Aidon Butts signed his letter to play the school Thursday morning at the high school.
Aidon is a three-year starter for the Wildcats and a .319 hitter with 32 RBI. He hit .361 as a sophomore with 18 RBI and hit .311 as a junior. Aidon has also stolen 26 bases in 31 attempts.
On the mound, Aidon’s control is almost pin-point with a 4-1 strikeout to walk ratio for his career. In three years, he issues a walk every three innings with more than a strikeout per inning.
Aidon, the son of Mark and Lisa Butts, says he expects to be a two-way player at Dyersburg State.
His older brother Arlon pitched for two years at Arkansas State and transferred to NCAA Division II Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama over the summer.
Aidon’s father Mark and uncles Ricky and Stevie were baseball standouts at Trigg County while his uncle David is a Trigg County High School Hall of Famer who played at Murray State and later in the Atlanta Braves farm system before retiring.
Dyersburg State was 29-26 and competes in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association. They advanced to the Appalachian District Tournament.
