The Caverna Colonels used an early shooting barrage to set the Fort Campbell Falcons back on their heels and they never recovered Monday night. Caverna knocked down four 3-pointers in the opening quarter, building an early 15-point lead, and then rolled to an 80-48 win on post.
Behind the 3-point attack, the Colonels took a 24-9 lead after one quarter. That lead grew to 44-16 at the half as Caverna added two more threes in the second quarter.
The Falcons came out in the second half and played closer to even with the Colonels but could not dig out of the early hole.
Caverna edged the lead out to 62-31 after three and then rode it out in the 4th quarter to take the 32 point win.
Israel Dillard had 17 points to lead the Falcons. Caverna did a good job on Fort Campbell leading scorer Tyreek Anthony, holding him to just 13 points for the night.
Caverna’s Jaylen Craine led all scorers in the game with 28 points, including 6 made 3-pointers. Russell Williams added 17 while Tyson Martin also hit double figures with 14.
A big story in the game was the number of shots the Colonels were able to get off. Caverna put up 76 shot attempts to just 48 for the Falcons. Caverna also outrebounded Fort Campbell 35-23.
The loss was the 9th straight for the Falcons and drops them to 1-11 for the season. They are set to get back to action Thursday night at home against Montgomery Central.
