Kentucky’s overhaul at receiver likely is complete now with the addition of Louisiana Tech transfer Tru Edwards.

He joins Kendrick Law (Alabama), Troy Stellato (Clemson) and J.J. Hester (Oklahoma) as portal additions to go with Ja’Mori Maclin, UK’s most experienced and productive returning receiver after Dane Key, Barion Brown, Anthony Brown-Stephens, Hardley Gilmore and Brandon White left after the 4-8 season.

The 6-3, 201-pound Edwards led Louisiana Tech in receptions (77), receiving yards (897) and receiving touchdowns (6) in 2024 and earned All-Conference USA first-team honors. He had eight receptions of 20 plus yards and four of 40 or more yards. He had touchdown receptions of 71, 75 and 86 yards.

He was considered the nation’s No. 59 wide receiver transfer by 247Sports.

Because of a lawsuit filed by Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Edwards has another year of eligibility. Edwards began his college career at Navarro Community College in Texas where he was an NJCAA All-American. He spent three years at Hawaii before transferring to Louisiana Tech in 2024.

Edwards received interest from South Carolina, USC, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Washington, and Mississippi State in the transfer portal.

He was a high school football/track athlete in Texas and his father, Troy Edwards, was the 1998 Biletnikoff Award winner given to the nation’s top collegiate receiver at Louisiana Tech who went on to a seven-year NFL career.

Because he played just one year of high school football, he attended Navarro (Junior) College for two years where he had  a team-high 39 passes for 434 yards and four touchdowns in seven games in 2020.

In 2021, he played in eight games mainly on special teams at Hawaii. He played in only three games in 2022. He made five starts in 2023 and had 23  23 receptions for 284 yards and two touchdowns before heading to Louisiana Tech last season.

New Kentucky receivers coach L’Damian Washington and Law, the Alabama transfer, are also Shreveport natives.

  1. Our offense will be better next year when we actually have a line and someone with SEC experience. I think the starting job will go to Calazada because of his SEC experience. But if he even slips one inch watch out for Cutter in year 2. I think we made improvements across the board especially on the o line. I would try to bring in at least 1 or 2 more offensive lineman. Every other position on offense should be upgraded. Wilcox is going to dominate in year 2. He averaged 6.5 ypc with no offensive line. His numbers will improve and the backup we have is better than chip which isn’t saying much but he will be very good in year 3. Stone Saunders could sneak into the quarterback rotation because I think he’s the best quarterback on the roster. He will need a year to get the speed of the game down. Tru is a great receiver exactly what we was missing.
