The streak will live on for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons against the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers. Madisonville scored the first 22 points of the game and rolled to a 68-15 win over Dawson Springs Tuesday night in Madisonville.
The win is the 44th straight in the series for the Lady Maroons. The last Dawson Springs win came back in the 2006 7th District tournament.
The Lady Maroons took a couple of minutes out of the gate to get their offensive footing. But while the offense struggled a bit in the opening moments, the defense was suffocating the Lady Panthers, forcing turnover after turnover and not allowing Dawson Springs to get into any kind of setup on the offensive end.
When the Madisonville offense found its footing, this one was settled fairly quickly.
Dawson Springs finally got on the board on a basket from Olivia Hines with 38.8 seconds to go in the first quarter. The quarter ended with the Lady Maroons up 26-2.
After a basket from Briley Sawyer for the Lady Panthers to open the second quarter, the Lady Maroons ripped off another 22-0 run to blow the lead out to 48-4. The half ended with Madisonville up 51-6.
With the running clock in play as the second half started, things finished out quickly. Each team scored 6 points in the third quarter with the quarter ending at 57-12.
Lady Maroon reserves saw all of the action in the final quarter and proved themselves a bit by extending the margin to
Riley Sword led the way for Madisonville-North Hopkins with 21 points, 19 of them in the first half. Bryanne Johnson finished with 10 points. SaNya Carney and Bailey Bryant added 7 points each.
Baylee Swatzell led Dawson Springs with 9 points in the contest.
With the win, the Lady Maroons improve to 8-6 on the year. They get back to action Friday on the road at Ohio County.
The Lady Panthers fall to 3-7 for the season. Dawson Springs goes to Heritage Christian to take on the Lady Warriors Saturday evening.
One big moment in the first half for the Lady Maroons was Riley Sword scoring her 1,000th career point.
