Lyon County’s first-half run was overwhelming.
Caldwell County held a 9-7 lead early in the championship game of the 2nd Region All A Classic in Dawson Springs.
But by the time Lyon was finished with its dominating run, the Lyons held a 41-11 lead in the second quarter.
The 34-2 spree helped Lyon claim a 77-54 victory and wrap up its seventh All A boys’ basketball regional title.
Caldwell (10-6), which was looking for its first All A regional championship, tried to battle back. But the hill was just too steep.
However, the Tigers followed the Lyons’ big run with a 17-0 burst of their own.
That got Caldwell as close as 41-28 early in the third period.
The Tigers had some opportunities to close the gap even further, but just couldn’t create enough offense.
Instead, Lyon (8-4) pushed its lead to 62-37 through three quarters, and the Lyons were well on their way to the state All A Classic tournament later this month at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Cooper Collins and Bray Kirk each tallied 20 points for the Lyons. Collins had 15 points in the first half while Kirk had 14 in the second half.
Nolan Coffman added 19 points and Carson Collins had 14 for the Lyons.
Pax Aikins had 13 points to lead Caldwell. Cade Rowland, Jaydarius Wilson and Kam Wilson had 10 points apiece.
The Lyons have now won 11 straight games against its former 5th District rival. That has allowed Lyon to open up an 83-71 lead in the all-time series.
The Lyons have won the last two regional All A titles and four of the last five.
Lyon will play the first game of the 2025 All A Classic state tourney, facing the 15th Region champion at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23.
