
Trigg County coach Michael Fraliex is known for stalking the sidelines with a 20-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew in his pants pocket as he coaches the Wildcats. Ahead of Tuesday’s game with Crittenden County in Marion, his cousin and Rockets head coach Matt Fraliex jokingly gave Michael a 2-liter of Mountain Dew to enjoy during the game.
The extra shot of caffeine and energy wasn’t needed as the Wildcats beat the Rockets 65-41 to complete the regular season sweep of Crittenden County.
Trigg County’s drive and kick offense was working well early as they knocked down four 3-pointers and built a 26-7 lead after the first quarter. The points were a little harder to come by for both teams in the second quarter, but Trigg still held a 37-17 advantage at halftime.
Crittenden County was able to get into the paint and show some tenacity on the offensive glass early in the third quarter as they cut the Trigg to 41-30 on a Jonah Reddick bucket with 2:32 left.
However, consecutive 3-pointers by Lance Breckel pushed the Wildcat lead to 47-32. Crittenden County was not able to get to within 15 points the rest of the way.
It was a good start for a Wildcat team that had not played since a 58-55 loss at Mayfield ten days ago.
Trigg County hit seven 3-pointers in the first half. and finished with 11 for the game. They shot 35% (11/31) behind the arc and 14-of-26 inside the arc.
Crittenden County held a one-rebound advantage thanks to 15 offensive rebounds that led to 10 second-chance points.
Four players reached double figures for the Wildcats led by Breckel’s 16 points. He hit 4-of-6 behind the arc as he continues shooting 50% from 3-point range for the season.
Slaton Carter scored 10 points and added eight rebounds and Joshuan Bridges came off the bench to add 11 points and hit a deep 3-pointer ahead of the third quarter horn to give Trigg County a 52-34 lead.
Davaree Gude had seven points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Wildcats who beat the Rockets for the fifth straight time. Trigg County leads the all-time series with Crittenden County 104-52.
The Rockets had one player reach double figures as Drake Young scored 12 points.
Crittenden County hit just 27% from the field and turned the basketball over 17 times which led to 21 Wildcat points.
Trigg County is 6-8 overall and 2-0 in the district as they prepare for two games each with Lyon County and Livingston Central in the next five weeks that will determine seeding for the top three teams in the district.
Crittenden County slipped 0-12 and 0-3.
Trigg County is back in district action Friday night on the road at Lyon County.
