Coming into Friday, Lyon County had won its previous seven games with Trigg County by an average of 47 points.
It was thought that with the graduation of Brady Shoulders, Jack Reddick, and Mr. Basketball Travis Perry, Trigg could close the gap this year.
However, the holdovers from Lyon County’s state championship team had other thoughts.
The Lyons used a 31-2 run to blitz the Wildcats 88-37 on Friday at Jason White Gymnasium. It was Lyon’s 17th straight win over Trigg dating back to 2017.
The Lyons hit 12-of-21 shots in the third quarter as they extended a 46-23 halftime lead into a running clock outcome thanks to a 31-6 advantage in the frame.
Lyon County won nearly every statistical category, shooting 44% from the field and getting up 42 more shots than Trigg as the Wildcats turned the ball over 30 times that led directly to 42 Lyon County points.
Trigg was also outrebounded 40-16. Despite missing 21 shots from the field, the Wildcats had zero offensive rebounds.
The Lyons put three players in double figures led by Bray Kirk’s 25 points. His transition bucket late in the first half gave the junior guard 1,000 for his career.
Nolan Coffman added 24 points and nine rebounds, and Cooper Collins chipped in with 13 points and five assists for the Lyons.
Slaton Carter scored seven points for the Wildcats with Davaree Gude adding six points and seven rebounds.
Lyon County is 10-4 and well on its way to a No. 1 seed in the 5th District with a 4-0 start. The Lyons will play at Graves County on Monday. Their next rematch with Trigg County is Saturday, February 15 in Cadiz – a game rescheduled from December.
The Wildcats (6-9) dropped to 2-1 in the district and still have a pair of games with Livingston Central on its schedule in addition to the February contest with Lyon County.
