It will be the Lyons and the Cardinals next Thursday in the opening game of the boys’ All A Classic state tournament. The Lyon County Lyons, who are back in the tournament for the second straight year and fourth time in the last five years, will face 15th Region champ Martin County Thursday morning at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Martin County advanced Friday night with a 68-51 win over Paintsville. It will be just the second trip ever for the Cardinals to the state tournament. However, those two appearances have come in the past three seasons.
Lyon County (10-4) knows where Martin County is located. The Lyons have been to Martin County the last couple of seasons for their big preseason event, the Zip Zone Classic. Back in November, the Lyons beat Harlan County in a rematch of last year’s state championship game.
Martin County is now 12-2 on the season. Their two losses have come to Perry County Central and Everglades High School, out of Mirimar, Florida.
Martin County High School is located in Inez, some 363 miles from Eddyville.
Thursday morning’s game is set for an 8:30am tipoff at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
