Cold shooting to start the game Tuesday night put the Fort Campbell Falcons in a hole they could not dig out of. The Falcons shot just 20.8 percent in the opening half as Goreville took a big early lead and rolled to a 75-38 win in the Superman Classic at Massac County.
Fort Campbell hit just 3 of 14 in the first eight minutes as Goreville took a 19-7 lead after the opening quarter.
The Goreville defense limited the Falcons to just two field goals from Israel Dillard as the lead grew to 42-11 at the half.
Goreville continued to extend the lead as the second half got underway. The third quarter ended with the Falcons trailing 65-26.
With the running clock rule in effect, the fourth quarter ran by quickly as Goreville closed out the 37-point win.
Fort Campbell got another big game from Tyreek Anthony, who finished with 21 points. Israel Dillard added 13 for the Falcons.
Nick King led four Goreville players in double figures with 12 points. Drake Buffington and Garrett Church scored 11 points each.
Fort Campbell drops to 1-14 with the loss. They are back in action in Metroplis Thursday evening in the consolation bracket of the tournament.
