Johnson Has 26 as Maroons Down Storm in District Clash

Madisonville-North Hopkins built a 13-2 lead less than 4 minutes into the game and went on to defeat Hopkins County Central 72-53 Monday night in Mortons Gap.

Kanyon Johnson scored 26 points to lead the Maroons, who improved to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in 7th District play.

Madisonville led 19-11 after one quarter and 39-26 at halftime.

Hopkins Central (7-8, 0-4), which fell just short at Madisonville in a 74-72 setback last month, could never put together a run in the rematch to get back in it.

The Maroons led 53-36 through three quarters and went up by as much as 21 points in the final frame.

Landen Smith added 13 points for Madisonville while Peyton Smith had 12.

For Hopkins Central, Davonyae Butcher and Sylas Gunn each had 11 points. Cohl Hoard had 10.

Next up for Madisonville is a home date against Muhlenberg County on Friday.

Hopkins Central will host another district foe on Friday when Caldwell County pays a visit.
