Threes Spur Lyon County Comeback Win Over Graves

Lyon County overcame a double-digit second quarter deficit and used a strong perimeter night to edge Graves County 89-88 in the Eagles Classic Monday at Murray State’s CFSB Center.

Graves County held a 24-20 lead after one quarter and extended it to 13 points midway through the second quarter. Nolan Coffman scored eight straight points for the Lyons, and Bray Kirk scored the final eight points of the half to bring Lyon County to within 46-44 at halftime.

The Lyons hit 4-of-4 shots behind the arc in the third quarter as they built a 70-63 after 24 minutes.

Lyon County finished the game 12-of-19 behind the arc and hit 7-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter as they held off a late Eagles rally.

Ty Cavette scored 10 of his 28 points in the final quarter to spur the Graves comeback. He also scored 10 points in the first quarter.

Coffman scored 12 points in the first quarter and nine more in the second frame. He also had five rebounds.

Kirk scored 15 of his 25 points after halftime.

The contest was the first between the schools in four years. The Lyons also won the 2021 matchup.

Lyon County now turns its attention to the All A Classic State Tournament in Owensboro. The Lyons will play 15th Region champion Martin County on Thursday morning at 8:30 at the Owensboro Sports Center.

The Cardinals (12-2) average 78 points a game on offense and shoot 30 three-pointers a contest. It will be the fourth trip to the All A Classic State Tournament in five years for the Lyons while Martin County is making its second trip in three seasons.
