Excitement for Kentucky women’s basketball continues to build as the top-25 matchup with LSU on Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum is officially sold out — UK’s second sellout of the season.
There are still a limited number of UK student and faculty/staff tickets available that can be claimed by showing a UK ID at the UK Ticket Office during business hours and will then access the ticket(s) through their UK Athletics Account. UK students can claim one ticket for themselves, while faculty/staff can claim up to two tickets – one for themselves and one for a guest.
Fans can also opt to buy tickets to the UK-LSU game through Ticketmaster Verified Resale at Ticketmaster.com.
No. 5 LSU (20-0, 5-0 SEC) ) will play at No. 2 South Carolina (18-1, 6-0 SEC) Friday after the game was postponed from Thursday when it was scheduled to be an ESPN GameDay showcase. LSU won the 2023 national title and South Carolina won the 2024 title.
LSU is led by dynamic scoring guards Annesah Morrow and Flau’Jae Johnson. Johnson leads the team with 20 points per game while Morrow averages 18.7. ESPN ranked both as top 10 players in the country going into the season.
Kentucky is 17-2 and 5-1 in SEC play after a 61-55 loss at Texas A&M Thursday night when it went 20 of 64 from the field and 1-for-18 from 3. Teonni Key had 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting — she hit UK’s only 3 — and nine rebounds. All-American guard Georgia Amoore had 15 points but was only 5-for-18 from the field, including 0-for-8 from 3, and also had four of UK’s 10 turnovers. Center Clara Strack was 2-for-12 from the field and had just six points and five boards. Amelia Hassett took only three shots, missed them all, and did not score for the first time this season.
The LSU game will start a brutal closing stretch for UK as the Cats will host Tennessee Feb. 27 and play at South Carolina March 2 to close the regular season.
Kentucky still has home games with Arkansas Sunday, Alabama Jan. 30, Texas Feb. 13 and Georgia Feb. 16. A limited number of tickets are available for each game as Kentucky continues its quest to finish strong enough to earn the chance to host NCAA Tournament games — a much more difficult task after the loss at Texas A&M.
Despite Thursday’s loss, Kentucky has players having historic seasons based on numbers compiled by Corey Price:
— Strack became the first UK player in 22 years to have at least 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in a SEC road game.
— Amoore has tied Makayla Epps (2015-16) for the most games (nine) with at least 15 points and five assists in the same game in a single season by a UK player in 22 years.
— Amoore is the only player in the SEC since 2002-2003 to have four regular season conference games with at least 20 points and eight assists in a single season.
— Amoore and Strack are the first UK teammates to score at least 24 points in a SEC road game since SeSe Helm and Sara Potts did that at Ole Miss in 2004.
