Hopkins County Central’s girls own the No. 1 seed for the 7th District tournament after dispatching Caldwell County 57-40 Friday night in Mortons Gap.

It’s the third straight win for the Lady Storm, who are now 11-7 overall and 5-0 in district play.

The Lady Tigers (6-9, 1-2) had the game tied at 13-13 when Tink Clark buried a 25-footer at the first quarter horn.

However, Hopkins Central scored the first 10 points of the second period and never trailed again.

The Lady Storm took a 26-18 lead to halftime.

Caldwell twice got as close as six points in the third quarter.

But Braylee Marsh hit a late 3-pointer in the third quarter to put the Lady Storm up 36-27.

Marsh buried another trey early in the fourth period to help Hopkins Central take complete control of the contest.

By the time Tyah White scored on a stickback with 5:43 to play, the Lady Storm held a 45-27 advantage.

The margin hit 20 points on a BriNiyah Dulin layup with 28 seconds to go, making it 57-37.

Caldwell held Hopkins Central’s top two scorers — Calajia Mason and White — to just seven and six points, respectively.

However, three other Lady Storm players scored in double figures in the win.

Marsh had 15 points while Kenzleigh Harrison and Dulin each added 12 points.

Clark had 15 points for Caldwell, but she was the only Lady Tiger in double figures.

The Lady Storm has taken the last 10 meetings between the two schools and now holds a 42-30 advantage all-time.

Hopkins Central will play again Saturday afternoon with a trip to Allen County-Scottsville on the docket.

Caldwell’s girls have another district date on Monday when they go to Madisonville-North Hopkins.
