
The Crittenden County Lady Rockets are looking to make their second-ever trip to the All A Classic semifinals and second in four years as they take to the court early Friday afternoon at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Standing in their way are the Lady Wildcats of Whitefield Academy in Louisville.
Whitefield (13-3) is making its first-ever appearance in the All A Classic state tournament and is coming off a 35-30 win over Knott County Central late Wednesday night.
Crittenden County (15-3) battled through a horrid shooting first half and ended up pulling away from Martin County to take a 51-32 win Wednesday night.
The Lady Wildcats three losses have come to Frederick Douglass, Pulaski County, and Elizabethtown. All three losses were by double figures.
The Lady Wildcats are led by senior Noel Smith, who averages 19.8 points per game. Smith is also the team’s leading rebounder at 7.5 boards a game.
Gwynnie Franz is Whitefield’s other double figures scorer at 16.2 per contest. Mia Braffet hits for 9.8 points per game.
Whitfield has scored 906 points this season, in 16 games, and given up just 467. For comparison, the Lady Rockets, in 18 games, have scored 1,029 and given up 791.
Whitefield’s biggest wins have come against Bullitt East and Boyle County.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools on the basketball court.
