We have all heard the story about David and Goliath and what David did to take down the giant. Saturday morning, the private Christian School from Boyle County will be the one with Goliath on their sideline.
Danville Christian and 6-5 University of Louisville signee Grace Mbugua are what stands between the Crittenden County Lady Rockets and a berth in Sunday’s All A Classic state championship game.
Mbugua and DCA had to battle Friday but eventually pulled away late to take a 64-52 win over 4th Region champion Metcalfe County in the All A quarterfinals.
Danville Christian enters Saturday morning’s semifinals at 13-5. Their losses have come to Louisville Ballard, Louisville Central, Johnson Central, West Jessamine, and Louisville Assumption.
Through January 16, Mbugua had played in just three games this season after returning from a knee injury. She was averaging 24.7 points and 14.7 rebounds.
Mbugua is not the only size the Lady Warriors have. Sophomore Amauri Blackford averages 11.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.
Outside Paisley Metz averages 17.9 points a game and has been knocking down 4.3 3-pointers per game. It was Metz that hit some big late shots against Metcalfe County.
Alaya Quisenberry also averages double figures for Danville Christian at 14.3 points per game.
If there is a ding in the Lady Warriors armor, it could be their free throw shooting. DCA is hitting just 53.4 percent at the line for the season.
Crittenden County and Danville Christian will tipoff Saturday morning at 10:30.
