Greg Stephens knew it was a matter of time before his Trigg County Lady Wildcats team would put a full game together. And while it wasn’t a full four-quarter effort on Friday against Livingston Central, it was three-and-a-half quarters and good enough for a 47-36 win over Livingston Central at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg spotted Livingston Central 13 points out of the gate thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Maggie Downey and a trey from Taylor Leahy.
Trigg’s Reese Bush countered Livingston’s outside attack with a trio of 3-pointers of her own in the opening quarter to keep the Lady Wildcats within eight points.
Victoria Joiner hit a deep three to extend Livingston’s lead to 21-12 early in the second quarter before Bush and AJ Navarro hit consecutive 3-pointers for Trigg.
The Lady Wildcats hit 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the first half to keep the Lady Cardinals from extending their lead.
Both teams hit a scoring lull in the third quarter, making just one field goal. Trigg hit three free throws to draw to within 29-25.
Trigg put things together in the fourth quarter, hitting 6-of-8 from the field and 9-of-13 at the free throw line while Livingston missed 13 of its 15 shot attempts.
Alivia Norwood buried a 3-pointer on the wing with 4:13 left to break a 33-33 tie and spark a 10-1 run that decided the game.
Veyda Grinols scored eight points in the quarter and Bush hit 5-of-6 free throws to seal Trigg’s first district win in two years.
Bush led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points, and Grinols added 12 points and 17 rebounds, part of Trigg’s 43-23 advantage on the glass.
Joiner led Livingston Central with 15 points, and Emersyn Ramage added four points and 13 rebounds.
Trigg County returns to the floor on Saturday against Hickman County in the Chappel Allen Memorial Shootout at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg and Livingston will meet again in Smithland on Feb. 14.
