Calloway Bounces Back, Defeats Colonels 59-47

Eli Finley scored 18 points and became Calloway County’s all-time leading scorer as the Lakers defeated Christian County 59-47 at the Chapel Allen Memorial Shootout on Saturday at Trigg County.

Finley hit a pair of free throws in the second quarter that gave him 1,998 points for his career, passing Stan Key who set the all-time school record in 1967. Finley would later add a bucket to top the 2,000-point mark.

Calloway County led 19-6 after the first quarter and 30-16 at halftime, shooting 52% from the field in the first 16 minutes. They were even better in the second half, knocking down 10-of-17 and finishing the game at a 55% clip.

The Lakers led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter but Christian County steadily chipped away and outscored Calloway County 17-11 in the fourth quarter.

Jonah Butler added 22 points and eight rebounds, and Luke Armstrong contributed eight points and six rebounds for the Lakers who were coming off a loss to McCracken County on Friday.

The Lakers are now 19-3 and snapped a five-game losing streak to Christian County that dated back to 2006.

Zion Acree led the Colonels with 16 points and Kam Williams added 10 as Christian County got 21 points from its bench.

The Colonels shot 41% from the field but hit just 3-of-15 behind the arc.

The Colonels are now 4-16 with their fourth straight loss and will play at Fort Campbell in an 8th District contest on Monday.
