Kentucky basketball is in a dangerous position after their 74-69 loss at Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.
Mark Pope’s team fell in a deep hole in the first half and while they impressively recovered to take the lead late in the game, they completely fell apart in the final 90 seconds.
The Wildcats lost to Alabama last Saturday and despite having an entire week to prep for the Commodores, they came up short of the victory.
Two straight losses could soon turn to three as Kentucky has a daunting road trip to Tennessee on Tuesday, where – according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index – they are considerable underdogs.
Not having veteran big man Andrew Carr on Saturday clearly impacted not just their depth in the front court but their entire offense in terms of spacing and moving the basketball, with Kentucky’s 17 turnovers being clear evidence of that.
It’s unlikely he’ll be available for the quick turnaround on Tuesday and the health of another key piece, Lamont Butler, is also up in the air.
The Wildcats have overcome adversity several times already this season, but this coming week will be quite the test. Not only do the Wildcats face the Volunteers on the road, but they’ll have a highly emotional home game on Saturday when Kentucky hosts John Calipari and Arkansas.
Tip-off for Tuesday’s game at Tennessee is scheduled for 7 PM ET with coverage on ESPN.
