
Hopkins County Central sophomore Alex Ray qualified for the state first round following a second-place finish at the Region One Championship on Saturday at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center in Hopkinsville.
Ray finished in second place in the 100-yard fly in 57.14 seconds. He was also third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.88.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state first round on Feb. 8 at Bowling Green High School. The next ten times in the event from Regions 1-3 will also qualify
Jaxon Ratliff was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke and was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.89.
Kole Knott was 14th in the 50-yard freestyle in 32.12 and 15th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:14.34.
Travin Qualls was 22nd in the 50-yard freestyle in 43.74.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Jaxon Ratliff, Alex Ray, Kole Knott, and Travin Qualls finished in fifth place in 2:28.69. The same group also finished fifth in the 200-yard free relay in 2:10.18.
As a team, Hopkins County Central finished in sixth place with 110 points. Murray won the region title with 406 points followed by Henderson County (301) and Fort Campbell (245).
