Madisonville’s girls have won four of their last five games after dismissing Caldwell County 66-55 in 7th District play Monday at Maroon Gym.

Riley Sword poured in 25 points and Bryanne Johnson added 19 for the Lady Maroons, who improved to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in the district with the Senior Night triumph.

Madisonville never trailed against Caldwell. The Lady Maroons scored the first seven points of the night as part of a 14-3 run to open the contest.

The Lady Tigers (6-10, 1-3) regrouped, though, and used a 12-1 run of their own to tie things at 15-15 midway through the second period on a bucket in the paint from Morgan Aikins.

But just as quickly as Caldwell got back in it, Madisonville regained control.

Johnson had two 3-pointers and Sword scored on a layup to give the Lady Maroons a 23-15 advantage.

A pair of Grace Watson baskets still had Caldwell as close as 23-19, but Madisonville finished the first half with a 12-2 burst to get to halftime with a 35-21 lead.

Sword had 14 points in the first half and Johnson 10 to help the Lady Maroons build their 14-point advantage.

Madisonville’s 11-point edge in the second quarter, 21-10, ended up being the difference in the contest.

Caldwell, which got a game-high 30 points from Brylee Butts, outscored Madisonville 34-31 in the second half. But the Lady Tigers could never make a run.

The margin dipped below double digits only once over the final 16 minutes. A three-point play by Butts made it 64-55, but only 24 seconds remained in the game.

Macy Wright added 12 points in the Madisonville win.

Tink Clark had 10 for the Lady Tigers.

Butts had six 3-pointers as part of her big night.

Sword had five treys for the Lady Maroons while Johnson added three shots from long range.

Madisonville pushed its winning streak against Caldwell to 16 straight in a run going back to the 2018 7th District tournament. The Lady Maroons lead the all-time series 63-16.

Madisonville will go to Dawson Springs on Tuesday for more district action.

Caldwell’s girls will next host Livingston Central on Thursday.
