
A big 21-2 run over the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter told the story Tuesday night in the 7th District matchup between the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers and the Madisonvlle-North Hopkins Lady Maroons. The Lady Maroons scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed on their way to a 61-19 win in Dawson Springs.
The Lady Panthers had no answer for Taylor Nelson in the first eight minutes of the game. The sophomore put up 11 points in the first quarter, doubling Dawson Springs on her own, as the Lady Maroons rolled out to a 23-5 lead after one.
The Lady Maroons scored the final 9 points of the first quarter. After a basket from Alieah Cook for the Lady Panthers to open the second quarter, Madisonville went on a 12-0 run to blow the lead out to 35-7.
Lady Maroon reserves saw almost all of the action in the second quarter as the lead grew to 40-15 at the half. Madisonville-North Hopkins had the 25-point lead and did not need a point from leading scorer Riley Sword to get there.
Lady Maroon starters remained on the bench as the third quarter got underway. Reserves Sadie Kirk, Chloe Baker, and JaMia Harris got the chance to get in some quality moments as Madisonville pushed the lead out to 59-17 after the third quarter.
With the running clock in the final quarter and reserves from both teams seeing extensive action, the last 8 minutes went quickly with just two points scored for each team.
Taylor Nelson was the only double figurers scorer for the Lady Maroons with 11 points, all in the first quarter. JaMia Harris came off the bench to score 8 points. Chloe Baker added 7. SaNya Carney and Sadie Kirk finished with 6 points each.
Alieah Cook was the leading scorer for the Lady Panthers with 6 points. Briley Sawyer and Alyssa Allison added 5 points each.
With the win the Lady Maroons improve to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in 7th district play, and have won 5 of their last six games. They get back to action Thursday night at Henderson County.
Dawson Springs falls to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in district play. The Lady Panthers will host Hopkins County Central Friday night.
