It required a little extra work on Tuesday for the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team, but the result was the same as the Lady Rebels’ last two outings as they took their win streak to three games with a 71-69 overtime victory at Butler County.
Alexis Taylor and Chloe Collins combined for eight points in a tight first quarter to overcome six from Butler County’s Tinslea Belcher and give the Lady Rebels an early 16-15 advantage.
Daymea Garrett and Ja’Mya Kay combined for 10 of Todd Central’s 14 points in the second frame. Ava Wilson countered with six for the Lady Bears, but the Lady Rebels took a 30-27 lead into halftime.
The game continued to be closely contested after the break. Jordyn Shemwell scored seven in the third, and Todd Central outscored the Lady Bears 18-17 to lead by four points to start the fourth. But the Lady Rebels were held to only 10 points over the rest of regulation and Butler County battled back to force overtime behind seven points from Bailey Moore.
Garrett came up huge for Todd Central in OT, knocking down a pair of three-pointers to go with five points from Kay. Carley Cardwell scored six and Ann Marie Skaggs chipped in five for the Lady Bears, but the Lady Rebels held on to win by a bucket.
