Caldwell Flexes Its Defensive Muscle In Win Over Trigg County

Nature documentaries show the predator waiting in the tall grass for its prey to come along before pouncing and getting a quick meal.

Caldwell County’s Tink Clark waited in the tall grass known as the passing lanes on Friday and scored 20 points – 14 coming from steals off bad passes to lead the Lady Tigers to a 70-48 win over Trigg County at the Butler Gym.

Clark’s defensive prowess came during a first-half blitz that saw the Lady Tigers build a 16-point lead.

The sophomore guard was 9-of-13 from the field with five of her steals coming in the first half as Caldwell turned a 9-7 lead into a 24-10 advantage midway through the second quarter.

 

Trigg’s 16 first-half turnovers led to 19 Caldwell points. Not helping the Lady Wildcats was a 6-of-23 shooting performance as the Lady Tigers built a 30-14 lead at intermission.

Caldwell County shared the wealth in the third quarter as eight players hit the scorebook as the Lady Tigers hit 7-of-15 shots and pushed their lead to 54-27 after three quarters.

Joining Clark in double figures for the Lady Tigers were Morgan Aikins (11 points) and Brylee Butts (10 points, six rebounds). Ke’Darriah Thompson scored three points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Caldwell outscored Trigg 42-24 in the paint and ended the game with 33 points off 27 Trigg turnovers.

Reese Bush led Trigg County with 17 points and seven rebounds. Veyda Grinols had another double-double for Trigg with 10 points and 14 rebounds. She also had five steals.

AJ Navarro added 12 points as the Lady Wildcats shot 30% from the field.

After losing eight straight games to Trigg County from 2020-23, Caldwell County has won three straight and leads the all-time series 85-29.

Caldwell has won two straight games and improved to 8-10. The Lady Tigers will play at Dawson Springs on Tuesday, looking to extend its winning streak over the Lady Panthers to 15 games.

Trigg County (4-14) will play at Murray on Saturday afternoon.
