The University Heights Academy Blazers go big games from both Elijah Walton and Tylin George Monday night and they needed them. The Blazers rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and then took a 76-71 win over the Owensboro Knights.
The team of home school students from Daviess County made the Blazers earn this win.
The opening quarter felt a bit ‘prophetic’ in how it played out. Elijah Watkins connected on three shots from behind the arc to spark the Knights to a 22-21 lead after one. Elijah Walton kept the Blazers close with 14 points of his own.
Charlie Fogle and Josiah Houston had big quarters for the Knights in the second quarter, combining to score 15 points as the lead grew to 43-36 going into the break.
The Blazers’ Tylin George got revved up in the third quarter, providing a spark that saw UHA close to within 55-51 as the teams headed into the final quarter. George hit for 10 points in the quarter.
UHA’s defense slowed down the nights in the final quarter and the Blazers got timely shots from Elijah Walton, Frank Pollard, and Tylin George as they pulled even at 66-66 and the game headed off to overtime.
In the extra period, the UHA defense held the Knights to one made two-pointer and one made 3-pointer and the Blazer offense was able to knock down 4 of 6 at the line as University Heights came away with the 76-71 win.
Elijah Walton ended up with 34 points for UHA. Tylin George added 30,
The Owensboro Knights were led by Josiah Houston with 24 points. Jed Gunderson ended his night with 15 points.
UHA (5-11) will host Fort Campbell in an 8th District contest Tuesday night in Blazer Gym.
