Dragons Rebound with Win at Madisonville-North Hopkins

After a tough homecourt loss to Henderson County Saturday, the Warren Central Dragons rebounded Monday night by going on the road to Madisonville and knocking off the team that had just beaten Henderson County the night before. Warren Central used a third quarter run to get past the Maroons 62-45.

Madisonville-North Hopkins trailed by as many as six early in the game and then rallied to score the final eight points of the opening quarter to take a 12-10 lead after one.

Led by Armani Byrd and Ant McAfee, the Dragons went on a 14-3 run in the second quarter and grabbed control of the game. Warren Central would take a 26-18 lead at the half.

The Maroons came out to start the second half and made a move to get back in the game, cutting the lead to 29-24 about 2 ½ minutes into the third quarter. Landen Smith knocked down 3 shots from behind the arc in the quarter

However, the Dragons responded with a 15-2 run to finish out the quarter and push the lead out to 46-31. Kash Carter had a big third for the Dragons with 8 points.

That late run turned out to be the back-breaker as the lead never dipped into single digits the rest of the way.

Landen Smith finished with 14 points for the Maroons. Ryan Bryant hit for 13 points and Kanyon Johnson added 10.

Ant McAfee was the leading scorer for the Dragons with 21 points. Kash Carter added 12.

Madisonville-North Hopkins (12-9) will head to Caldwell County Friday night for a big 7th District contest which will decide the top seed for the 7th District tournament.
