
Trigg County matched a season-long five-game losing streak following Tuesday’s 64-53 loss at Union County.
However, the Wildcats will play their final six regular season games at home as they try and snap their skid before the district tournament begins on February 24.
Trigg County was playing without its leading scorer and rebounder, Davaree Gude (14 ppg. 10 reb.), who missed the game with an illness.
The Wildcats represented themselves well in the first quarter as they battled the 6th District Braves to a 15-all tie after the first eight minutes. However, Union County began the second quarter with an 8-0 run as four players found the scorebook.
Trigg County shot the ball well in the first quarter, hitting 6-of- 9 shots, but managed only 2-of-9 in the second quarter – both of those 3-pointers by Caleb Fogle.
Union County’s tenacity on the glass proved hard for the Wildcats to overcome. The Braves outrebounded Trigg County 30-22 with 14 of those offensive boards that led to 13 second-chance points.
The opportunistic Braves also scored 19 points off 17 Trigg turnovers.
Trigg County did manage to knock down 11-of-31 from 3-point range which helped keep the game close after Union County built a 48-32 third quarter lead.
Fogle hit five of the treys to finish with 17 points. Landon Swann hit four threes and scored 16 points. Slaton Carter joined those two in double figures with 12 points and six rebounds.
Union County had three players score in double figures led by Cortayvion Rapier’s 14 points and five rebounds. Gavyn Black came off the bench to score 12 points and Cameron Miller added 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
The win was Union County’s second straight over Trigg and the Braves lead the all-time series 23-19.
The Wildcats will play their final six regular season games at Wildcat Gym and return to the court on Friday night against McLean County. Trigg County’s latest Hall of Fame class will be recognized at that game.
