Cassidy Harrington may wear pigtails when she wrestles, but she is no Cindy Brady on the mat.
The Fort Campbell sophomore entered the week ranked in the top ten in her class statewide by KentuckyWrestling.com and is one of the main components of the Lady Falcons’ girls’ wrestling team that finished second in the region last year and third at the state tournament.
Those are two finishes they look to improve upon in a couple of weeks as the wrestling season reaches the postseason.
Harrington was a region runner-up last year in the 132-pound class and won her opening-round match at the state tourney before two straight losses ended her season.
That quick and earlier-than-expected ending has fueled Cassidy this season. She is ranked seventh in the state in the 132-pound class and knows what stands between her and a region title in two weeks – Ohio County’s Talynn Clark who has handed Cassidy three losses this season.
Cassidy won both of her contested matches at State Duals last month, spending less than a minute on the mat combined and helping the Lady Falcons finish in fifth place.
But Cassidy is not a one-trick pony. She also plays soccer for the Lady Falcons and says the conditioning she goes through during soccer season pays off for wrestling as she moves quickly from one season to the next.
Cassidy and her Lady Falcon teammates will wrestle at the region tournament on February 18th at Central Hardin High School in Cecilia.
Then, she will move into club wrestling at the freestyle and Greco levels as she works toward her goal of wrestling in college.
In this YSE interview, she talks about her season and preparations for the postseason.
