After enduring a bit of a midseason skid, the Lyon County Lady Lyons have rebounded with back-to-back wins.

Lyon’s girls took control in the second quarter Thursday night on the way to a 71-40 triumph over Caldwell County at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

That victory comes on the heels of a 63-52 triumph at Carlisle County on Tuesday after the Lady Lyons had dropped five of their previous six outings, albeit against strong competition.

Against Caldwell, Lyon never trailed after running out to an 11-2 lead early.

The Lady Tigers battled back to within 16-12 after one quarter, but couldn’t keep the momentum going in the second period.

A 13-2 Lyon run to open the stanza made it 29-14. The Lady Lyons (18-7) went on to outscore Caldwell 26-7 in the quarter to take a 42-19 advantage to halftime.

The Lady Tigers (9-11) staved off a running clock in the second half but could never make a run at the Lady Lyons, who led 57-34 through three quarters.

Trinity Taylor hit two early 3-pointers to help get the Lyon offense going. She finished the night with five treys while putting up 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Piper Cotham had a pair of 3s while netting 18 points for the Lady Lyons, who connected for 11 shots from behind the arc. Courtney Collins added nine points and eight boards. Audrey Akridge had eight points.

Caldwell, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, got 12 points from Tink Clark. Med Thomas had eight points while Brylee Butts and Morgan Aikins added six each.

The final score was similar to the teams’ first meeting this season — a 70-42 Lyon victory in the 2nd Region All A Classic last month.

The Lady Lyons have taken the last seven meetings with Caldwell and nine of the last 10. The Lady Tigers still lead all-time 89-35.

Lyon’s girls were scheduled to play again on Saturday in the Akridge Farm Supply/Ace Hardware Shootout. However, Hickman County was forced to pull out of that game due to numerous illnesses.

The Lady Lyons are next slated to play Tuesday when they go to Owensboro.

Caldwell will be in action again on Friday when it hosts Madisonville-North Hopkins for a 7th District girls and boys doubleheader.
