Despite outscoring hosts Logan County in the second half on Friday, the Todd County Central Rebels couldn’t overcome a sluggish start in a 69-53 loss to the Cougars.

Todd Central remained winless in 13th-District play while Logan County stayed perfect at 5-0.

Samson Hightower tossed in a game-high 33 points, including six in the opening quarter to help the Cougars to an early 13-2 advantage.

Todd Central’s Antavion Shemwell and Jayden Glass combined for 10 points in the second quarter, but Logan County continued to build the lead behind nine points from Davis Switzer and seven more for Hightower.

Shemwell scored seven of the Rebels’ 17 points in the third, and John Ross Cardwell posted 10 in the fourth, but the hole was too deep.

Todd Central slipped to 1-23, 0-4 in district play, while Logan County improved to 14-9 with its fourth straight win and seventh in eight outings.

The Rebels will play their final two district games next week when they host Franklin-Simpson on Monday and Russellville on Friday.
