The Hopkinsville Tigers secured a big 2nd Region road win against the Hopkins County Central Storm in Mortons Gap Saturday night. Jonovan Leavell led three Tigers in double figures as Hopkinsville took the 78-63 win.
Hopkinsville jumped out to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter, with Jonovan Leavell contributing 8 points.
However, Hopkins County Central fought back in the second quarter, fueled by Devonyae Butcher’s 12-point first-half performance, cutting the deficit to 7 points by halftime.
The third quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, with Hopkinsville extending the lead back out to 10 points at 56-46 heading into the final period.
Hopkinsville pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Storm 22-17 to secure their third consecutive win.
Leavell led the Tigers with 23 points, followed by Johnathan Hearth with 17, James Bradley with 14, and Layton Giltner with 10.
For the Storm, Butcher led the scoring with 17 points, while Lake Sumner and Sylas Gunn each added 10.
Hopkinsville improves to 10-13 on the season and will host University Heights on Tuesday. Hopkins County Central falls to 10-12 and will travel to face Henderson County.
