Lyon County’s Nolan Coffman and Bray Kirk combined for 51 points as the Lyons turned away Owensboro 90-80 Saturday afternoon at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

A strong second half helped Lyon erase an 11-point first half deficit in the final game of the Akridge Ace Hardware Shootout.

The visiting Red Devils (10-12) had things going their way in the second quarter when they built a double-digit lead.

Owensboro still led 48-42 at the intermission.

The 3rd Region school held a 10-point advantage at 54-44 early in the second half before the Lyons began to roll.

Lyon (17-6) drew even at 59-59 on a putback by Nolan Coffma with 3:23 left in the frame.

Isaac Defew then gave Lyon the lead 18 seconds later with a bucket from inside to make it 61-59.

That was part of a 15-0 Lyon burst that sent the home team to the final period with a 68-59 advantage.

Lyon went up 10 at 76-66 on a basket from inside by Eli Baker midway through the fourth quarter before Owensboro made one last push.

A steal and layup by Keylin Payton had the Red Devils within 78-74 with still 2:10 to play.

However, Bray Kirk hit two free throws, then Cooper Collins buried a 3-pointer with 1:17 left to push the margin to 83-74, and the Lyons were well on their way to a victory.

Lyon took its biggest lead at 90-77 late in the contest.

Coffman had 26 points and Kirk 25 for the Lyons. Cooper Collins added 12 and Carson Collins had 11 for Lyon.

Owensboro got 25 points from Michael Acton. Keaton Hughes scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half. Will Hume had 12 points and Kade Arnold 10.

The Lyons will play at home again on Monday when they host Dawson Springs for homecoming.
