A pair of acronyms could be used to describe Caldwell County’s 72-35 win over the Trigg County Lady Wildcats on Monday.

For the Lady Tigers, the game was about ‘TCOB’ – taking care of business. In snapping a two-game skid, Caldwell County jumped out to an 11-0 lead and built it to 19-1 as they held the Lady Wildcats without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the game.

Brylee Butts scored 11 points in the first quarter as Caldwell hit 7-of-14 shots and built a 21-4 lead after the first frame.

For the Lady Wildcats, the game was about ‘SOS’ – same old story. Trigg County managed just five shots in the first quarter as 10 turnovers led to 16 Caldwell County points. Trigg came into the game averaging 24 turnovers a game and giving up 24 points off those miscues a contest.

Against Caldwell, it was 31 turnovers and 43 Lady Tiger points in return and it turned into too big of a hole for the Lady Wildcats to climb out of.

After Trigg County cut the deficit to 31-16 at halftime, Caldwell pushed the lead to 53-26 after three quarters.

Caldwell hit 22 of its 37 shots from 2-point range and outscored Trigg 40-18 in the paint.

Butts finished with 19 points and six rebounds, while Tink Clark scored 15 points in 16 minutes of action.

Eleven players scored for Caldwell County who shot 44% from the field and came up with 20 steals.

Veyda Grinols notched a double-double for Trigg County with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Reese Bush scored six points and was held without a field goal as Caldwell made it a point to closely guard Trigg’s leading scorer for most of the contest. AJ Navarro hit two of Trigg’s three 3-pointers and also scored six points.

Caldwell County improved to 10-12 and has already surpassed last year’s win total by two. They get a 6th District twin bill later this week when they play at Union County on Thursday and host Webster County on Friday.

Trigg County (6-18) has already doubled its win total from last year and will host Dawson Springs on Thursday.
