
Hosts McLean County snapped a four-game skid and extended Dawson Springs’ slide to three games with a 70-61 victory on Tuesday.
The Panthers slipped to 14-12 ahead of a trip to Livingston Central on Thursday. Dawson Springs took the season’s first meeting with the Cardinals 76-49.
Dawson Springs’ Rex Blue got going early with eight first-quarter points, but McLean County got seven from Jax Lee and six each from Zane Decker and Camden Baird to lead 26-18.
However, the Cougars went cold with only seven points in the second, and Jaydon Plunkette knocked down a pair of threes to help the Panthers overcome an eight-point deficit and send the game into halftime knotted at 33-33.
Lee had the hot hand again for McLean County with 10 points in the third quarter. Blue and Montgomery Johnston combined for eight, but Dawson Springs trailed by four points with a quarter to play.
Johnston added nine more points in the fourth, and Blue scored four to finish with a game-high 21. However, Jaelin Groves caught fire with 13 down the stretch to help McLean County close out the win.
McLean County improved to 14-10 behind 20 points from Lee, 17 for Groves, and 14 for Baird.
Johnston finished with 13 to join Blue in double figures for the Panthers, and Easton Bourland had 12.
