A huge second quarter run and a big night from their star player made much of the difference for the Butler County Bears Monday night. The Bears broke open a close game and then cruised to an 85-69 win over the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons on the Maroons’ home floor.

The Butler County lead was just 17-11 after the opening quarter but then the bottom fell out for the Maroons. The Bears would lead by as many as 27 in the second and ended up taking a 45-26 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Maroons would take steps toward cutting into the lead but Butler County would have the answer each time.

Butler County led 67-51 after three and then played even with the Maroons over the final eight minutes of the game.

The Bears got another big game from their All-State player Ty Price. Price led Butler County in scoring with 26 points. Justin Castlen and Trever Deweese added 17 points each.

With the loss, the Maroons drop to 13-10 on the season. They go on the road Thursday night to take on defending state champion Lyon County.
