If you are boys basketball teams in the 2nd Region that object approaching in your rearview mirror could be the University Heights Academy Blazers. The Blazers won for the 4th straight time Thursday night dispatching the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors 90-52 on Senior Night in Blazer Gym.

On the night that senior Elijah Walton scored his 1,000th career points, the Blazers got big games from Walton, Tylin George, and KeShawn Moore in route to the big district win.

This one was almost over before it really got started. The Blazers scored the first 18 points of the game. Included in that run were four thunderous dunks from Tylin George.

The first quarter ended with the Blazers up 35-10.

The UHA defense struck to the recent playbook as it pertains to containing HCA’s leading scorer Jason Leek. Any time Leek had the ball in his hands, the Blazers were chasing him with two defenders, daring someone else on the floor for the Warriors to beat them.

The Warriors did a better job hanging with the Blazers during the second quarter, but still Heritage trailed at the half 57-28.

The best news of the night in the opening half for UHA was the play of sophomore guard KeShawn Moore. Moore, who broke his leg in the first preseason scrimmage, had his best outing since returning to the lineup, scoring 12 of his 19 points in the first half of play.

The highlight moment of the night came early in the second half when Elijah Walton came up with the ball and took it in for a slam, scoring his 1,000 and 1,001 points in his career.

The Blazers ran the lead out to 81-39 at the end of the third. Reserves then saw much of the action for UHA over the final 8 minutes as they cruised on out to the win.

Elijah Walton and Tylin George scored 27 points each to lead the Blazers. KeShawn Moore was not far behind with 19 points. Frank Pollard added 7.

Jason Leek scored 24 to lead Heritage Christian and earned every one of them due to the pressure defense from the Blazers. Nathan Wheatcraft added 7 points for the Warriors.

University Heights (8-11) will host Todd County Central Saturday night.

Heritage Christian (9-17) travels to Butler County Saturday for the Hebrews Classic where the Warriors will take on Breckinridge County.
