Hopkinsville Gets Past Hopkins County Central in OT

This is one the Hopkinsville Tigers pulled out of the fire after seeing it almost slip away. After seeing the Hopkins County Central Storm rally to force overtime, the Tigers dominated the overtime period on their way to a 92-79 win on Senior Night in Tiger Gym.

Hopkinsville got to the lead early in the game. The Tiger defense held the Storm to just three field goals in the first eight minutes as Hopkinsville went up 12-8.

With Johnathan Hart and Layton Giltner leading the way, the Tigers extended the lead to 34-23 at the break.

Lake Sumner caught fire for the Storm in the third quarter. Sumner drilled three shots from behind the arc as Hopkins County Central trimmed the lead to 53-44 heading into the final quarter.

The Storm then knocked down 12 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter as they battled back to pull even. Central got big quarters from Sylas Gunn, Cohl Hoard, and Lake Sumner as the game headed off to overtime knotted up at 75-75. Hopkins Central was able to force the OT despite big fourth quarters from Jonathan Hart and Jonovan Leavell.

The overtime was all Hopkinsville. It was the Tigers in the extra period that did the damage from the free throw line. Hoptown was 9 of 11 on free throws as the Tigers were able to hold on to the lead once they got to the front in the overtime.

Jonathan Hart had another big night for Hopkinsville with 25 points. Jonovan Leavell hit for 19 points. James Bradley Jr. scored 17 points, while Layton Giltner ended up with 16 points.

Lake Sumner ended the night with 25 points for the Storm. Cohl Hoard had 13 points. Karon Hopson with 12, Channing Stone with 11, and Sylas Gunn with 10, rounded out the double figures scoring for Hopkins County Central.

Hopkinsville (12-14) is back in action Saturday when the Tigers go on the road to take on McCracken County.

Hopkins County Central (10-15) is now off until Tuesday night when the Storm hit the road to take on Union County.
